Yoga in the Workplace
It is well known that life at work can be full of challenges
and distractions. Experts agree that managing stress
requires self-calming techniques for the mind and physical
exercise for the body. Yoga is an ancient system of
mind/body healing combining gentle stretching and movement,
breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation that
brings benefits such as a clear mind, calm manner and
flexible body. This translates in the workplace into
improved productivity, quick thinking and creativity.
Communication often improves, conflicts are resolved
through better listening, understanding and empathy
and this frequently results in reduced sickness and
absenteeism.
Yoga
at work may sound unorthodox but its happening across
the country as more managers struggle with ways to take
the pressure off their staff. It helps that yoga can
be done practically anywhere (boardrooms, lunch rooms
etc.) and it can be shared by people of completely different
fitness levels and ages.
